National Popular Vote would ensure every vote counts equally

National Popular Vote would ensure every vote counts equally

By Daniel Lishansky, NPV Committee Chair With primary voting and election season here, we are bombarded with news about the Electoral College and Swing States, also known as Battleground States. These are the states that can go Red or Blue in the election. They will determine the winner of the election, while the Spectator States are predictable and generally ignored. In the 1990s it was common to have 16 or more Swing States in a presidential election. But that dwindled to 12 by 2008. And for 2024 there will be just five Swing States. The problem is that campaigns focus on attracting voters in just those few Swing States, while the voters in the other 45 states are taken for granted. Each state passes its own law directing how it will award its electoral votes. Two states, Maine and Nebraska, award their electoral votes by congressional district. A candidate receives

Some Tips To Boost Your Mood

Some Tips To Boost Your Mood

By Nancy Gau, Healthcare Co-chair The holidays are behind us and many of us find this a particularly difficult time. The weather can be gloomy, and post-holiday blues can get us down or make us feel less motivated. Here are a few tips the Healthcare Issue Group is sharing that might help: * Take the time to exercise, even if it’s just a 10-minute walk. * Slow down. The holiday rush is behind us. Move more slowly through your daily routine, and simply breathe.  Breathwork can reduce anxiety. * Do the things you love more often. * Don’t deprive yourself of a little comfort food, while continuing to eat those veggies. * Learn something new. * Let go of people or situations that drain you. * Find joy in little things and laugh more. * Get enough quality sleep and rest. * Make beautiful memories. * Donate $10 or $20 to a charity that helps others. Abortion Access Petition Drive Successful

Abortion Access Petition Drive Successful

By Ashley Cacicedo-Surdovel, Young Leaguers Chair Thank you to everyone who collected and signed petitions for Floridians Protecting Freedom’s Constitutional Amendment. As of this month, the Florida Division of Elections updated its official count and I am excited to announce that we have reached the petition threshold. Our volunteers across the state — from FPF, the League and many other groups and individuals — have worked diligently to collect valid signatures from registered Florida voters, and we couldn’t have reached this milestone for democracy without you. The Florida Supreme Court will conduct a Public Hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 9 a.m. to discuss the abortion access ballot initiative and language. Please click on the image (above right) to register for the Public Hearing watch party. Floridians Protecting Freedom, the group managing the petition, still needs funding to help meet the goal of getting abortion access Constitutional Amendment on the November 2024 ballot in Florida. Please donate as much as you

We Made This Happen!!

We Made This Happen!!

According to the Division of Elections website, 910,946 petitions have been validated and we have met the threshold in 17 Congressional Districts. Now, the Secretary of State will confirm these signatures, but we want to get the word out about this amazing accomplishment.  We are asking partners to use our Validation Toolkit to get the word out. Please post widely, and make sure posts like to our social (flprotectfree on all platforms) and website (www.floridiansprotectingfreedom.com) We are still asking that partners refer media to media@floridiansprotectingfreedom.com. It is crucial that accurate and in-depth information be shared with the media and we also want to make sure we are well positioned for the steps ahead.  If you want to learn more about next steps and what happens from here, you can join us at Monday, January 8th at 6 PM for a supporter briefing.  We’ve got a long road ahead of us and would also love you to consider
