The holidays are behind us and many of us find this a particularly difficult time. The weather can be gloomy, and post-holiday blues can get us down or make us feel less motivated. Here are a few tips the Healthcare Issue Group is sharing that might help:

* Take the time to exercise, even if it’s just a 10-minute walk.

* Slow down. The holiday rush is behind us. Move more slowly through your daily routine, and simply breathe.  Breathwork can reduce anxiety.

* Do the things you love more often.

* Don’t deprive yourself of a little comfort food, while continuing to eat those veggies.

* Learn something new.

* Let go of people or situations that drain you.

* Find joy in little things and laugh more.

* Get enough quality sleep and rest.

* Make beautiful memories.

* Donate $10 or $20 to a charity that helps others. There are many, including: Faulk Center, CROS, NAMI, 211, The Lord’s Place, Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, Islamic Relief Muslim Charity, and many more.

* Last but not least, remember that the best things in life are still free: hugs, smiles, friends, family, love, laughter and good memories.

Please share these tips. And if you know someone troubled, encourage them to reach out and dial 211 locally for such issues as food or housing or to speak with a trained counselor. If the issue is more critical, anyone at any time can call the National Suicide Hotline number, 988.

Finally, if you see someone who looks lonely or sad, give them a compliment — or even just a smile. You may just save a life.
