League to Address African American History Education Standards

League to Address African American History Education Standards

‘We are planning to address these misleading offensive statements as the League on our own, and in concert with many historical groups that educate on African American history.’ One of the recent challenges in Florida is the newly announced standards of African American History established by a Florida Department of Education board. These standards include a curriculum that claims slavery actually taught slaves skills that some were able to use for their own benefit. This is an outrage! The League will not quietly let this pass by.  We are planning to address these misleading offensive statements as the League on our own, and in concert with many historical groups that educate about African American history, see the connection between erasing the history of minority groups and limiting the participation of minority groups in civic engagement. — Cecile M. Scoon, Esq., Co-President
