During the month of September 2018, the Speakers Bureau committee will focus on delivering speeches throughout Palm Beach County on the 2018 November Election Ballot Proposals. Palm Beach County covers 2,383 square miles and contains 918,931 registered voters. Our committee may not reach each voter directly but we are offering opportunities, in both the densely populated eastern coastal area and the rural area to the west, for them to listen to a well thought out Power Point Presentation. Thirteen events were held between September 4 and 14, reaching 658 voters.
As a part of the presentation, attendees were given a score card with the ballot measures listed on it. They were encouraged to mark their preference for each amendment proposal as they listened to the presentation. This is a resource voters can use when filling out their ballot. These presentations, professionally delivered by 8 different League members, were well received by audiences. As the chair of the committee, I have heard many compliments about the speakers and the overall quality of the presentations.
One interesting fact, given the frequency of these events, some voters have attended this presentation several times to gain a broader understanding of the issues. I know our committee is doing its part to create a more informed electorate. There is ample opportunity for LWVPBC members to attend one of these presentations from now until November 2, 2018. One such event is the Hot Topics luncheon on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Atlantis Country Club where Speakers Bureau member Mark Schneider, will serve as the keynote speaker.
