Speakers Bureau October Update

Our LWVPBC provided over 60 presentations in September and October. Thank you to all our LWV PBC speakers. You are amazing! Because of you, we were able to reach thousands of voters and provide them with the information they needed to make an educated vote.  An extra thank you to our Florida Speakers Bureau Chair Ethelene Jones, the Ballot Amendments presentation was very well received. Our Speakers Bureau training expert, Mary Jane Range, will be holding a speaker’s training session in January.  Check the calendar after the election for the date and time, and don’t forget to check the website to see the list of presentations that are available.

Speakers Bureau February 2020 Report

By Dr. Corinna Balderramos Robinson       In an effort to boldly and pragmatically work toward diversifying our Speakers Bureau, with more underrepresented members who will not shy away from visiting non-traditional locations, we are hard at work doing so.  In February, we visited churches, public libraries, high schools, city town halls, and community centers. As a “Call for Action” our first meeting and training session for 2020 commenced February 13th, 6-7:30 pm, at the Box Gallery (an art studio) in West Palm Beach.  Mr. Rolando Chang Barrero, our host and manager, shared a few challenges regarding outreach to the Hispanic community.  His candid recommendations to garner full participation during the census and upcoming elections led to an invigorating discussion.  The mini, petite desserts catered from a local Cuban café were delicious, and we enjoyed Christine Campbell-Gabor’s enthusiasm and civics crossword puzzles shared too! There are so many fantastic

Newest Chair for the PBC Speakers Bureau

By Dr. Corinna Balderramos Robinson As the newest Chair for the PBC Speakers Bureau inclusive of 70+ members, I’ve hit the ground running and am overwhelmed by the warm welcome and support by so many LWV members.  Most recently, I was elated to hear from our recent “Hot Topics” guest speaker, Mrs. Cecile Scoon.  As we are both veterans of military service, her thoughts and sage advice regarding the “strengths of diversity” rang home.  For example, Cecile spoke of quelling the perception of “a white savior stepping out of an ivory tower”; rather that we, as members, should seek out “the passport giver” while “listening to others tell their story”.  Building trust and gaining voter support takes time and sensitivity to one’s culture and values. Thus, I have pledged to boldly and pragmatically work toward diversifying our Speakers Bureau with more underrepresented members who will not shy away from visiting

Speakers Bureau Fall Season

Speakers Bureau Fall Season

Speakers Bureau Committee Prepares For An Active Fall Season On August 24, 2019, ten members of the Speakers Bureau met to discuss several PowerPoint Presentations, learn the procedure for assigning speakers and associates for upcoming events, and review the topics for the twelve events scheduled for September through November. Our League offers 20 presentations on a wide variety of issue topics including: Civics, Critical Thinking and Civility, The National Popular Vote, Healthcare in America, and environmental issues such as Fracking. Local organizations request one of these topics to be presented at a time, date and location of their choosing, to inform and enlighten their audience. We ask for a monetary donation to the League of Women Voters Palm Beach County Educational Fund, to defray the cost of handouts. As the requests are received, committee members of the Speakers Bureau are contacted by email to solicit a well-trained volunteer to give
